Church & Local Events/Courses/Activities

Lunch Stop  (previously Coffee Stop) is open between 11:30am and 1:30pm every Thursday (term time) in the Church Hall for light lunches,  snacks and drinks as well as fresh coffee plus home made cakes and biscuits.  The bookstall will also be open.  Please contact Pat Darke for details, or if you would like to help, on 0116 279 2252.  coffeepot.gif (1334 bytes)

Another Alpha Course is being run starting February 2008 by the Kibworth Pastoral Team.   Please contact Revd. Ludger Fremmer on 0116 279 2294, if you would like to attend the course or would like further details.

LENT Course Our Lent Course last year (2007) was based on the book ‘What’s So Amazing About Grace’ by Philip Yancey. With deep personal honesty Yancey paints true portraits of grace’s life-changing power as he searches for its presence in his own life, and the life of the Church. He explores grace – God’s love for the undeserving – whilst challenging Christians to become living answers in a world that desperately wants to know: What’s so amazing about grace?

Anne and Peter Thornley led the course. Each session consisted of a short video clip and discussion. Many of us have found Philip Yancey’s work to be most inspiring, and we were so pleased that so many people were able to join either the evening or daytime programmes.

Clear the Clutter ! - the next sale at Raitha's on the A6, is on 4th and 5th April 2008. The last one raised over £2,000.  If you have any goods you wish to sell and would like to give the proceeds to St. Wilfrid's, then please contact Rob Tidd on 0116 279 3030.

Fleckney & Kibworth Praise is a joint venture between Fleckney New Life Fellowship, Kibworth Methodist Church and St Wilfrid’s.  Fleckney & Kibworth Praise services are intended to be informal, modern and lively (yes, that means some clapping in time to the music and lots of happiness!).  The services are held on one Sunday evening each month (see the Diary for details).  You are most welcome to come to the next.

The next Kibworth and Fleckney Praise will be on Sunday 13th April, 7.45pm at St. Wilfrid's Church, Kibworth.

The theme this month is Sports Mission and we are very lucky that Nick Ferraby will be talking about Play, Pray, Say, based on Colossians 4, 2-6, and about the work of Christians in Sport.

For further information contact Ludger Fremmer on 0116 279 2294 or email

Spring Harvest 2008 - Yes, it is that time again already.  To get the best prices and adjoining chalets we will need names and numbers for booking Spring Harvest, at Easter time in 2008 (31st March to 5th April), by 10th June 2007.  We will be booking for the 3rd week at the Skegness Butlin's site - starting on the Tuesday after Easter Bank Holiday Monday and returning on the following Sunday.   The Main Event is a conference, held every Easter, attracting some 55,000 Christians of all ages and from a wide range of church backgrounds. The experience is very worthwhile so put your name down early for 2008 !!  Why not visit the Spring Harvest website to find out more about the theme and activities.  If you would like to know more or book a place, please contact Hilary Surridge (279 2761) a.s.a.p.

The thriving Church Bookstall is open for business after every 10am service and during Lunch Stop on Thursdays. There is something for all ages and hopefully all tastes. Have a look and see if you can find a book to but for the summer holidays. Although currently stocked with books for sale and music CDs for loan, it is our intention to buy in cassettes and videos also for loan.

Gift Aid is a scheme that allows any charity to claim a refund of tax on money donated to it (currently 28p for every £1 given) The Gift Aid scheme has been drastically altered so that any donations (large, small, regular or one off) to our Church by a UK tax payer, that can be traced back to the donor, are valid for the recovery of tax. All the donor has to do is complete a Gift Aid declaration. There is no additional cost to you.

You must have paid or will have paid an amount of tax equal to the tax we reclaim. That tax can be on earned income, investments, bank and Building Society accounts or capital gains. The declaration states your name and address including postcode, a description of your gift and a statement that you wish the Church to reclaim the tax on your gift. The Church will ensure your donation and declaration are confidential.

We have written to all of you who are currently giving regularly to St Wilfrid's Church either by bankers standing order or through the envelope scheme asking you to complete a new Gift Aid declaration. This will supersede any covenant already in existence and enable us to administer all donations, from now on, in the same way. Other Church members who are included in the Prayer Diary will also be receiving details of the new form. If you don't hear from us please get in touch will Linda Taylor (2793392) or Michael Picken (2792745)

If you would prefer to make one-off gifts these can also benefit from the new regime and a declaration can be made on the Gift Aid envelopes that can be found at the back of St Wilfrid’s Church or ask a churchwarden, John Cox, Michael Picken or Linda Taylor.

Our aim is to maximise the recovery of tax on the gifts to our Church for God's work in this parish. Please help by filling in a declaration if you are a taxpayer and by telling other people about the scheme.
